The Norpoint FC ‘87 Girls Under 18 Soccer Team will represent the Norpoint Soccer Club and Washington State Youth Soccer Association in Boise, Idaho as the GU19 Washington State Champions. The Norpoint Soccer Club is located in Northeast Tacoma. The team defeated the Under 19 FC Royals 86 team on Sunday March 5th by a score of 3-1. The Washington State Youth Soccer Association State Championship games were played in Memorial Stadium and were hosted by the Seattle Youth Soccer Association.
In addition to the victory the team was also honored with the LeAnne Enhat Fair Play award. LeAnne Enhat was a longtime soccer volunteer for Tacoma-Pierce County Youth Soccer as well as a devoted WSYSA Volunteer and State Cup Tournament Director who passed away after a short battle with cancer.
The Norpoint FC 87 team are the Girls Under 18 Division II (P2) Champions for the 2005-2006 fall season with a record of 10wins-0losses-4ties. The team went on to be undefeated (6-0) in the Under 19 State Cup bracket, scoring 19 goals and surrendering 2 goals.
The Norpoint FC 87 team is the first girls’ team ever from the Norpoint Soccer Club to win a WSYSA State Cup Championship. Thirty years ago, in 1976 the Norpoint Royals a U16 Boys team who were coached by John Duggan and Roman Strug were not only State Champions, but were also the first Washington State Youth Soccer team to win the Western Regional Championship which was held in Las Vegas, Nevada and is now known as the Region IV Far West Regional Tournament, The Norpoint Royals went on to represent the Norpoint Soccer Club and Washington State Youth Soccer at the 1st Annual North American Youth Soccer Championship (now known as the USYSA National Tournament). The BU16 Norpoint Royals finished 2nd in the nation and consisted of the local soccer stars and Tacoma residents: Jeff Durgan, David Felt, Matt Sweeney, John Duggan and Jeff Stock.

The squad is coached by Head Coach Phil Jackson who coached the Norpoint FC ‘84, GU18- 2004 Washington State Cup Finalist. Coach Jackson played his Washington Youth Soccer for the Manitou Cougars and ironically won his first State Championship as a player in 1973 at none other than ….Seattle’s Memorial Stadium!
Norpoint’s Assistant Coach Olivia Jackson is a graduate of Bellarmine Prep High where she was a member of 1994 and 1996 WIAA State Soccer Championship teams. Olivia played her collegiate soccer at Oregon State University. As a member of the FC Royals 80 squad, Olivia has 3 Washington State Youth Championships, 2 Regional Championships and 3rd in the Nation after attending the USYSA National Tournament in 1997 in Phoenix, Arizona. One of the Regional Championships earned by Olivia and the FC Royals team was at the very same site in Boise, Idaho that the Norpoint FC 87 team will be traveling to from June 18-25th.
In an effort to give back to the Norpoint Soccer Club, the coaches and athletes of the Norpoint FC 87 team will be providing some skills clinics and training for younger female Norpoint Soccer squads as they prepare for Regional competition.
